We’ve all seen the videos. The ones where someone wakes up at 5 a.m., drinks their morning pre-workout, runs five miles, meditates, journals all before the sun and/or the kids wake up.
If that works for you, AMAZING! But if the mere thought of a rigid morning routine makes you want to pull the covers back over your head, I have a secret…. you don’t have to have a strict schedule to have a magical, productive day. The secret isn’t always waking up earlier. It is being more intentional with the time that you DO have. Instead of scheduling every waking minute of your day, here is what I have implemented to make each day feel fulfilling.
Ditch the rigid schedule.
Let’s be real, life happens, and all it takes is one tiny hiccup to make you feel like the whole day is spiraling. So instead, I suggest 2 or 3 nonnegotiable habits that anchor your day. A warm cup of coffee, a hot shower, 10 minutes of your favorite book. Give yourself grace when things don’t go perfectly. Being consistent will always beat intensity every time.
Emptying your thoughts:
Mind racing at night? All of the Things to do, random hopes, dreams, things you forgot during the day? Get them out! Put it on paper! It doesn’t need to start pretty or organized, taking it out of your brain and writing it down will help you be able to prioritize what actually needs your attention for days and weeks ahead.
Have the right tools!
Having the right tool doesn’t just make tracking your routine easier, it makes it something you can look forward to! There is something motivating about opening a journal or a calendar with goals, hopes and dreams. Even if it is something you need to organize the thoughts or the everyday responsibilities.
I’ve curated a collection of items that I find the best to start in that direction.
