We talk a lot about mental magic here- manifesting your goals, organizing your ideas, and keeping your daily drive high. But for me, the real magic happens when I am able to focus my mind. What works every time is moving my body.

I’ll be the first to admit: I am NOT a personal trainer or a fitness expert. I’m just someone navigating a busy home life, trying to find pockets of time throughout the day to pour back into myself. Which some days is a hard task. Over the last few months, I’ve realized that when I make time to move, I’m not just chasing a sweat; I’m clearing out all that mental clutter that piles up and focusing it somewhere ,so that I, can focus when I’m done.

Getting to a public gym is not something that is in the cards for me right now, so home it is.

If you are looking to get some inspiration of what you can do to start, here is a look at what has been working for me.

My minimalist set up

I used to think you need a room full of expensive gym equipment to get a great workout at home. Turns out, you don’t. I’ve kept my space small and simple and using what I have to my advantage.

  • My studio bike. I currently have a Peloton and love it. I’ve had it for about 4 years now and it has been a great tool for me to be able to just blast some music and zone out for 20-30 minutes.
  • I have dumbbells that range from 5- 15lbs. This is a perfect set up so far for when I want to feel strong and focused.
  • Resistance bands and floor sliders- These take up zero space but add a perfect amount of challenge for training.
  • A workout mat- for any floor movements needed

Keeping in minimal means I can set up in seconds, get it done, and get right back to my day.

My workouts range from week to week but I try to find a program that allows me to get 3-5 days of movement in. This can range from strength training to walks, to 30-minute cardio sessions.

The key is consistency.

How do I keep the consistency, I aim for 3 days of strength and 2 cycle days they be together or they can be separate. I also enjoy walking our puppy outside when the day just doesn’t allot for a longer workout, or if I’m not feeling it that day. I’ve learned that the magic to this is not forcing a perfect workout, it is just about showing up and moving, however that looks that day.
